• Travel Policy

We believe that adventures should not come at the expense of the planet. All ORBIT360 events are built around community, responsibility and low-impact travel. To keep our footprint as small as possible, we follow a clear and transparent travel policy for all participants.

    1. General Principle: Travel Light, Travel Responsibly

We encourage all participants to avoid air travel whenever reasonably possible.

Many regions in Europe are well connected by train or long-distance bus, making overland travel a safe and climate-friendly option.
    Rail Regions (no-flight):
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary.
    For residents of these regions:
Air travel to our events is not permitted.
Overland travel is considered the expected and sustainable option.

    2. Exception Regions (air travel allowed with contribution)

We understand that some participants cannot reach our events without flying.
Time, money and personal circumstances differ, and not everyone can spend several days travelling overland.

Examples might include a person who lives sustainably every day – vegan, no car, low-impact lifestyle – but who simply cannot reach the event without a plane. For participants from regions where overland travel exceeds 12 hours or is unrealistic, air travel is allowed. In these cases, a mandatory contribution to the ORBIT360 Sustainability Fund is required. All contributions support long-term reforestation through The Generation Forest in Panama. Exception Regions:
    • UK & Ireland
    • Scandinavia (NO, SE, FI, DK)
    • North America
    • Southern Hemisphere
    • Oceania

    3. Why we use a CO₂ contribution

We base our calculation on the long-term carbon sequestration provided by The Generation Forest.
One forest share (500 m²) binds roughly 1 ton of CO₂ per year over several decades. Across the project lifespan, this results in an effective cost of 30–40 EUR per tonne, significantly higher – and more realistic – than typical offset schemes. Our travel contributions reflect the actual CO₂ emissions of flights and the real cost of compensating them through long-term forest restoration.

    4. CO₂ contributions for return flights

    • UK → Bolzano ~0.6 t CO₂ → 30 EUR contribution
    • Scandinavia → Bolzano ~1.2 t CO₂ → 60 EUR contribution
    • North America → Bolzano ~4.0 t CO₂ → 180 EUR contribution
    • Southern Hemisphere (e.g. Cape Town) → Bolzano
    ~5.5 t CO₂ → 240 EUR contribution
    • Oceania (e.g. Australia, New Zealand) → Bolzano
~10 t CO₂ → 450 EUR contributionThese values ensure fairness based on distance and environmental impact, while keeping participation accessible.

    5. Use of the Sustainability Fund

100% of contributions flow into the ORBIT360 Sustainability Fund, supporting:
    • long-term forest restoration (The Generation Forest)
    • local climate initiatives
    • environmental projects in the regions our routes pass through
    • educational activities and community-led sustainability programs

This ensures that every contribution has a tangible and lasting impact.

    6. Our commitment to responsible travel

    We implement this policy because:

    • sustainability must remain realistic and accessible
    • we want to raise awareness, not create barriers
    • responsibility grows through fair solutions, not strict prohibitions
    • we care for the places our community moves through
    • adventure only has a future if we protect it

    7. Transparency

All CO₂ contributions are listed annually in our ORBIT360 sustainability report. Participants will always know where their money goes and what impact it creates.
